Welcome to New Buckenham Parish Council
Local Government has a key role to play in helping communities deal with the current national emergency surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic. Details of how to access the resources and information provided by Norfolk County Council and Breckland District Council and other Government agencies are provided below. But first a few points about how this affects New Buckenham Parish Council and its activities in the village.
New Buckenham Parish Council Meetings
The Parish Council will continue its work, even though physical meetings of the council have been cancelled until further notice. Recent emergency legislation allows for "virtual" meetings to be held by local councils and your Parish Council is continuing to meet in this way at the usual time of 7.30pm on the second Tuesday of every month. Please click on the "Meetings" button at the top of the page for further information, including how you can participate in the meeting.
Please note that the children's play area is now open again, as from Saturday 4th July. The Play area is an open, unsupervised area. The Parish Councillors feel that parents are in the best place to judge the risk to their own children, and to ensure they wash or sanitise their hands before and after using the play equipment. Please be sensible and avoid the play area if it is in risk of overcrowding.
The Parish Council has no plans at the moment to close the cemetery. The occasional visit to the grave of a loved one, whilst taking one's daily exercise is entirely acceptable in the current circumstance. The only times when groups of people tend to congregate in the cemetery are when there is a funeral. In those circumstances the funeral director involved will be operating in accordance with the latest government guidelines which will limit the number of people attending the burial. We would just ask you to respect those guidelines and avoid entering the cemetery when a burial is taking place.
Grass cutting and other grounds maintenance continues to be carried out by the Council's contractors on the Common and at the cemetery, allotments and St Martin's Closed Churchyard. This is being carried out in a way that observes the social distancing requirements. Please do not approach those carrying out the work (although a cheery wave of gratitude from a safe distance would not go amiss). If you have any concerns, please direct them to the Parish Clerk or one of the Parish Councillors.
